Maverick Entertainment - NO RECOMMENDATION

Companies: MVK

Maverick Entertainment looks set for a busy 2002. Last year the media rights company reported a £225,561 (£151,750) loss on £330,889 (£94,821) of revenues. But having launched a DVD version of Transformers The Movie late in 2001, this year's sales figures should be considerably higher. The launch of the DVD coincided with toy manufacturer Hasbro's decision to re-launch a range of Transformers toys. Managing director Mike Diprose explains the significance, stating that '12 months ago we were selling the video for £4.99. We can now sell the DVD for £15.99'. In addition, Maverick holds IP rights over the likes of Fuzzy Felt, GI Joe, My Little Pony and the Moomins, yet the highest hopes are reserved for Snailsbury Tales, an original cartoon it is producing for the BBC. The series will begin screening on digital TV this summer and should reach terrestrial screens by September. As well as its agreement with the BBC, Maverick has signed a seven-year deal with Australian state TV channel ABC - granting it publishing, merchandising and licensing rights Down-Under. A range of toys should hit the shops in early 2003. An interesting, if high-risk, punt for penny share devotees.
