Asda has confirmed that it has received an approach from a joint venture between the Davidson family (including the company's own chairman E.W. Davidson) and FTSE 100 property juggernaut British Land that could lead to a cash offer. Asda's share price, which had already given shareholders about a 30% return since August 2000, had been boosted further by rumours about a possible deal.
