The minimally-invasive surgery equipment maker has relaunched its VersaPoint hysteroscopic system. The kits were withdrawn from the market following reports of air or gas bubbles clotting the arteries during hysterectomies. Subsequent investigations by a panel of experts concluded that these bubbles were not caused by the VersaPoint kits but by other techniques used in womb surgery. The experts recommended a change in the labelling of the product, but not in the product itself. These recommendations have themselves been approved by the US FDA, and shipment of the products has already started. The financial impact of this hiccup, according to chief executive Mark Goble, is to cut out one quarter's sales - but this amount will be absorbed by the performance of other sectors of the business.
