Jourdan seems to be performing well. The group designs, manufactures and markets a variety of consumer products from fireplaces to trouser presses. Turnover for the year to June rose to £20.1m (£19.7m) and profit before tax increased by 15% to £2.43m (£2.11m). This, however, excludes the profit from the disposal of the tangible assets destroyed by a fire at its Suncrest division in 1998. Suncrest has now recovered and despite the disruption of its relocation to a permanent location this year, sales actually increased by 16%. The acquisitions of Westfield Medical and Nelsons Labels in May for £8.67m added two further niche businesses to the group. Executive chairman David Abell is confident that Jourdan will make good progress 'in the coming year', adding that the company continues to review 'acquisition opportunities'. Interestingly, Jourdan holds stakes in both Brooke Industrial Holdings and SEP Industrial Holdings.
