Despite reporting a 10% increase in educational sales, Novara's interim results showed pre-tax profits falling 6% to £3.3m (excluding exceptionals of £700,000). Both comparisons exclude the pharmaceutical division sold last year, which contributed £63m to turnover. The purchase of a 33% stake in Dialnet, a supplier of computer networking services to schools, forms part of a strategy of widening its business services. The delay in concluding a £9.75m Brazilian contract is likely to impact on expectations for the full year.
