Internet services group Host Europe revealed an impressive set of results for the year to 31 December, with turnover soaring by more than 200% to £5.16m (£1.53m). A pre-tax loss of £1.2m (£187,000) was also posted - £300,000 better than market forecasts. The encouraging signs did not end with the financial either, with the number of domain names registered doubling to 76,000 in just six months. Credit for this has been linked to August's launch of 123-reg.co.uk, which, at £2.89, is claimed to be the cheapest service of its kind. With this service establishing a large base of clients, chief executive Abby Hardoon explains that the higher cost products of e-commerce and web hosting will follow. Having recently purchased German peer One-2-One, chief operating officer Frank Rejwan notes that the group has turned its attention to identifying similar opportunities in Italy and France - the four countries combined are expected to provide around 73% of the whole European market by 2004. Hardoon, meanwhile, refused to confirm whether negotiations are under way with any suitable companies, wryly suggesting that 'we're always exploring opportunities'.
