Exhibitions and conference group Expomedia has bought leading German exhibitiion brand ‘Babywelt’.
AIM-quoted Expomedia, headed by chief executive officer Mark Shashoua, has bought Babywelt, which runs shows covering 'the entire scope of baby-related products', for an undisclosed amount from Messewelten, a subsidiary of German group Messe Berlin. The deal has been done by G&J Expomedia Events, the UK company's Hamburg-based joint venture with Gruner & Jar, Europe's leading magazine publisher.
According to Shashoua, this acquisition makes G&J Expomedia Events 'the market leader for specialised consumer shows in Germany'. Shares in Expomedia, which halved its first-half loss to £239,000 on turnover up 34 per cent to £17.4 million, have rallied from 79p in February to £108.5p today, still well below their 2004 high of 161p.
