Happier healthy? There's a lot of women worrying about their health and lifestyle according to Channel Health but it's the men who are slaves to cable and satellite, at least traditionally. Channel Health wants to tap both markets by satisfying interest and increasing awareness of health issues. It provides a multi-platform distribution network and went live as a website in October 1999, and in June 2000 it broadcast on Sky Digital. There are plans to combine these two projects with the onslaught of Interactive TV. Though young and therefore loss-making at the moment, it has a strong management to direct its evolving plans and attract those belligerent males and fussy females. Joanne Sawick, the new chief executive, worked for six years at BSkyB and for some of that time as head of development. She aims to increase subscription, advertising and sponsorship because at the moment revenue is only collected from licensing content and phone lines. Channel Health was admitted to Aim today and £5.1m was raised. This will be used for development and expansion into foreign markets such as Germany. The placing will also raise the profile of the channel and attract those recalcitrant new customers.
