Mining veteran Tom Elder may be regretting the shareholders’ thumbs-down for the £35 million sale of African gem and gold prospector Mano River Resources (see page 18), where he was chief executive, to fellow AIM counter Petra Diamonds. But, though obliged by the calling off of the merger to carry on at his post, he is still set to become a non-executive director at Angus & Ross, the former tantalum seeker now pursuing gold, zinc, lead and silver prospects in Brazil, China, the USA and Greenland.
Elder comes to Angus & Ross at a particularly interesting time, according to Robin Andrews, the company’s chairman. He says that global warming is shrinking the ice cap in Greenland – and showing up valuable mineral deposits on Angus & Ross’ prospecting areas.
‘We are one of the first global warming stocks,’ quips Andrews. Whether this will warm up the company’s obstinately icebound share price remains to be seen.
